OVERVIEW

David R. Hurst is a member in the Bankruptcy and Corporate Restructuring Department, and is resident in both the firm’s New York and Wilmington, Delaware offices. For nearly two decades, David has represented public and private companies in out-of-court restructurings, "prepackaged" bankruptcies and traditional chapter 11 cases. His debtor-side representations have spanned a wide variety of industries, including biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, chemicals, communications, healthcare, hedge funds, manufacturing and retail. David also has considerable experience representing creditor committees (both official and ad hoc), bankruptcy trustees, plan administrators and liquidating trusts, directors and boards of directors, lenders, secured and unsecured creditors and asset purchasers in a wide variety of bankruptcy and restructuring matters.

David has been recognized repeatedly in Chambers USA, where he has been described as “bright and creative,” “very smart, very detail-oriented, [and] easy to work with” and as having “superb judgment.” Chambers also has noted David’s “expertise in representing public and private companies in out-of-court restructurings and prepackaged bankruptcies,” and that he “has a significant in-court practice and is praised for his handling of traditional Chapter 11 cases.” No aspect of this advertisement has been approved by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. See Award Methodology.

David earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University, and was employed by Mobil Oil Corporation (now Exxon Mobil Corporation) for more than five years before entering law school. After receiving his degree from Harvard Law School, David clerked for the Honorable Thomas L. Ambro of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and spent nearly a decade practicing bankruptcy and corporate restructuring law at one of the world's largest and most prominent law firms.
