OVERVIEW

Gerard M. Giordano is special counsel in the firm's Environmental Department. His practice includes counseling clients with regard to federal and state environmental regulations, compliance programs, corporate health and safety issues, as well as real estate and commercial transactions. He is also involved in litigating complex environmental cost recovery and insurance matters.

Since joining the firm in 1992, Gerard's notable matters have included participating in:

  • Providing a defense to an international steel distributor against bodily injury and property damage claims arising from alleged environmental contamination, with the claims being dismissed;
  • Cost recovery suits on behalf of car dealers, developers, shopping center owners, manufacturers, retailers and landlords against other responsible parties and insurance companies in which the firm was successful in obtaining significant reimbursement of the client’s cleanup costs; and
  • Obtaining insurance coverage for a variety of clients for the investigation and cleanup of environmental contamination.

Gerard has also represented a number of clients in OSHA-related matters.

A member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the New Jersey Bar Association and American Bar Association, he has written a number of published articles regarding environmental and OSHA law.

Gerard earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Seton Hall University School of Law, Masters in Public Administration from the University of Colorado and B.S. from Rutgers University.

Prior to law school, Gerard worked for the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration as an industrial hygiene compliance officer.
