Ian also served as a Vice-Chair of the SMU Board of Advocates and participated in many off-campus competitions, including the ABA Client Counseling Competition, where he was named regional champion and national runner-up. Based on his advocacy skills, Ian was selected for membership in The Order of The Barristers. In the SMU Student Senate, Ian represented his fellow law students as a senator and then served as Graduate Affairs Officer, representing all graduate students in the senate. Acting as a student attorney in the SMU Criminal Justice Clinic, Ian represented numerous clients in criminal proceedings and was able to obtain many positive outcomes for his clients.
